"In every situation, there is always the opportunity to tell a story rather than document an event."

I wish I could remember where I read that very simple statement.  I'm sure it was off of some blog I read in the bathroom on my cell phone, but as I started taking on a wider variety of photography jobs, it started actually happening.  Instead of just photographing a guy swinging a bat at a baseball game, I started looking for the opportunity to catch the umpire in some kind of emotional state, or maybe catch the pitcher's reaction after someone hammers his fastball over the left field wall.  It's a hard thing not to follow the ball, but I finally learned that the story is almost never just about the ball.

If you want someone that will look for those moments, that's me.
